English Food Part I
I would break down English food in to three parts:
1. expensive (E)
2. significantly more expensive (SME) and
3. national debt expensive (NDE)
Expensive:
This generally falls under the category of pub, take out or cafeteria food.
Usually there is something on your plate that is indigestible probably as a reminder of what it hasn't cost you.
How to eat a Hereford and Rumple Pie:
(at a pub on Great Portman Road)
Eat the peas, all of them. they are good for you and the only veg. you will get today.
Take the crust off the pie. It is under cooked, thick and inedible.
Eat the contents in this case Hereford beef. A little tough and stringy but alright.
Eat the mash potatoes with the Rumble gravy but only 1/3 of the portion which is vast.
Wash it all down with a Carling's.
PS I did try and talk a gentleman into sending his daughter to Langara College while eating my pie.
Other indigestible features have included:
1 mustard dumpling
1 issue of peas
Almost everything at this level (E) of dining comes with chips and peas or chips and beans.

Won't you be glad to get home to be able to eat good food. Sorry we were not able to be there for the opening like we talked about, but Denis's passport did not come back in time for us to make arrangements. Sure looks like you are having a fine time. I am guessing it won't be long before your sweetie is there.

Hi Scott
Very funny posting - enjoyed it muchly! Terry arrived back home yesterday afternoon and left this morning with the children in tow very very early for Bermuda. Christopher's first time to fly - he was very nervous. I can tell when he's nervous -he starts cracking jokes - he was actually quite funny at 5:15 a.m. today. Terry was shocked at how expensive London is - from food to cabs! He said he could only afford to visit there on business -never as a tourist. He enjoyed his time with you and my baby sister a great deal. Take care. Hoping the exhibit goes smashingly!! Hugs and Kisses - Chris.
Don't get me wrong, there is extraordinarily good food in London. You just have to pay more for it. English Food Part II and III are being prepared. Stay tuned.

You've got to try the Fish and Chips!
Oh and I remember taking some American friends of mine to the Ship a few years ago...can't remeber what we had to eat though...and why are you drinnking Carling??? Have you tried the Real Ales yet?(he asked expecting the answer yes!)
Really enjoying the Blog Scott, keep it coming!
Steve
Are those mushy peas? Maybe you can lose a few while you are there. Be positive!

I told you before - stick with curry.
Right! Now don't get me wrong. I love pub food but it is difficult to know the good from the bad until it is too late.
Thanks for the fish and chips suggestion, Steve. THere is nothing like good English fish and chips. The best so far it the North Sea Fish Shop on Leigh Street.
Thanks David. Yes, Curry is a must, though I'm a little concerned about my GI situation (say no more). Also there are surprisingly not a lot of Curry Houses in Bloomsbury.
Forget the mushy peas. I can't get even close to them. Whole peas or nothing.
More to come on English food.
We are off to Chartwell today.
