Breadfruit Bligh: the first of two paintings for the exhibition, Bounty: a Case of Preposterous Optimism

This was my first photo of the nearly completed painting of William Bligh. It is in a contemporary cable news layout.

This was a second photo after I felt Bligh needed to looks older. He was 35 at the time and had been at sea with Cook, master and commander of Bounty and sailed in an open boat with 18 others by the time his trial was completed.

In this last photo I felt I had given him a more appropriate skin texture and eyes than in the previous version. This was the painting I have sent to London for the exhibition.
